The Armbrust
Wesleyan Church was organized with twelve charter members on May
20, 1923 as a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church. The church
operated for 24 years until Rev. James McClure became pastor in
1947. As the church grew so did it’s vision. Finally property
was purchased and the erection of a new building was begun. With
the foundation barely completed, this visionary pastor died
after leading the church for twenty years.
In 1968 the Pilgrim Holiness Denomination merged with
the Wesleyan Methodist Denomination to form the present Wesleyan
Church. The local congregation is affiliated with the Western
Pennsylvania District of the Wesleyan Church.
From 1966 until 1991 the church was led by Rev. J.L.
Clark. During his tenure the church continued it’s growth and
added a parsonage along with an office wing and a Sunday School
wing. A bus ministry was started in 1972. In July of 1974 an
innovative drive in worship service was started. In 1976 a
Christian academy was added in the recently built Christian
Education wing of the church. The academy soon moved into it’s
own facility which was dedicated in 1982.
After the retirement of Rev. Clark, Rev. Dan Berry pastored the church for two years. When Pastor Berry resigned to
become a district Superintendent, he was succeeded by Rev. Glenn
Rader. Under his 10 years of leadership the church grew spiritually, as well as, completed four major building renovation and espansion projects.
Our current Senior Pastor, Rev. Tim Stradling, served as an assistant for a year with us before being called to lead us. Pastor Tim has a passion for God's Word and is a gifted, creative communicator and teacher. He has a passion for helping the poor and less fortunate, serving at the Washington City Mission weekly. He is also a talented singer who leads us in worship.
